    Joan's Notes Obituaty 21 Nov 1930: MRS. MARY FITZGIBBON: The news of the death at Dunedin on Friday last of Mrs. Mary Fitzgibbon, relict of Mr. Edmond Fitzgibbon, Arrow Junction, was received with general regret by the residents of Arrowtown and district. Deceased had not been in good health for some time, but it was hoped that an operation would restore her to health. Accompanied by her daughter, Miss N. Fitzgibbon, whe went to Dunedin a fortnight ago and entered a private hospital, where the operation was performed on Tuesday last. Although the operation was considered to be successful she did not regain strength and ...passed away on Friday morning. The late Mrs. Fitzgibbon was born in County Limerick, Ireland, in 1859. She came to New Zealand in 1880 (sic.) and two years later she was married to the late Mr. Fitzgibbon and came to Arrow Junction to reside and, with the exception of a short period at Skippers, she had resided there ever since. Of a cheery and kindly disposition, she was respected and esteemed by all who knew her. A good neighbour, she was ever ready to assist those in need. As a

    member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church congregation she will be much missed, being a generous and unostentatious giver to the church and school funds.Her husband died in December

    husband died in December 1921, and a family of five daughters and three sons are left to mourn the loss of a good mother. Two of the daughters a members of the Sisters of St. Joseph's order, one (Sister M. Dominica) being stationed in New South Wales, and the other (Sis. M. Edmond) at Port Chalmers' convent. The other daughters are Mrs. Fitzgerald (Orepuki), Miss N. Fitzgibbon (Arrow Junction) and Nurse Kate Fitzgibbon (Southland Hospital). The sons are Messrs

    Thomas A. (Arrow Junction), Edmond (Woodlands) and Rev. Father JHohn Fitzgibbon (Johnsonville, Wellington). The body was brought to Arrowtown for interment. On Sunday morning a Requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, the celebrant being Rev. Father Fitzgibbon (son of the deceased), when there was a large congregation. On Sunday afternoon the interment took place at the Arrowtown cemetery, when friends from all parts of the district attended to pay the last tribute of respect. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Father S. Marlow. The Rev. Fathers R. Marlow (Invercargill) and Martin (Cromwell) were also present.  [1]
