CLUTHA LEADER — 21 January 1908

Family Gathering at Te Houka

On Friday evening the 10th instant, a very interesting gathering took place at Ellenslea farm, Te Houka when all of Mrs William Moffat's sons and daughters, their wives and husbands, and their families paid her a surprise visit. As the weather was good outside games were played until dark, and afterwards some 50 or so happy persons adjourned to the house for refreshments. Some of the ladies remembered it was Leap year and soon they were busy arranging the barn for a dance which was kept going merrily for a couple of hours to the music by Mr William Moffat on the violin, the Misses Nellie Moffat and Annie Wilson carrying out the duties of M.C.s with credit.

A happy evening came to a close with Auld Lang Syne.

Last year a function of the same kind took place, some 40 relatives visiting Mrs Moffat and spending a very enjoyable time. Mrs Moffat herself is in her 71st year but she is still in the best of health, and looked quite in her element when in the midst of all her children and children's children.
