Tonight Lisa looks outside about 9 PM and notices a cute little deer baby out on the lawn. As I walk over to look I see another one – both very young, and “oh so cute” with their spots.
Two BambisAbout a week ago I’d seen a single Bambi and Mum out in the wildflower “prairie” we have planted over the septic hill but it wasn’t the same as these ones which are even smaller.
But then we have to temper the warm fuzzy feelings and remember that these little “darlings” will grow up to become the monsters that ravage the gardens on our property – even those right up by the house.
Deer DamageThis picture above and the next one are just a small part of the row of carnage that we found on return from our trip out East. The deer had been along the gardens around the house and nipped of hundreds of buds on a variety of the plants growing there. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!
More Deer DamageExperience of course has taught us that for things we really want to keep we need to protect them – from both the deer and the rabbits – and in the shot of the two Bambis on the right side is a Japanese Maple tree growing (started from a seedling from another tree) inside a wire cage to keep it alive as we try to get it established.
And just a few days ago “someone” ate the growing tips out of 4 or 5 of my tomato plants 🙁
Since putting in the ponds nearly 2 years ago it has been a constant battle to keep the water clean. I’d only bought a cheap filter at Menards when first getting this set up, and it became apparent that we needed better to try and keep the water clean. Other measures were needed too, like…
Lilac trees are supposed to be purple, or “lilac”, and indeed we have a number of such plants in our yard. This view is looking north across much of the property toward the house – the trees in the row are Eastern Redbud, a lilac, and a flowering Dogwood tree. The road is visible way in…
I looked out the kitchen window this morning and “spotted” this scene. another “bambi” was off to the left. They left before I could get another photo.
Below are a few images of the water gardens as they were on 10 August – Lilies in full bloom- too bad they’re all yellow. Tucked in away amongst the lilies I found this little scene.
A very intense hailstorm this morning dropped the biggest hailstones I’ve ever seen – still no where near the size that you hear about – golfball size, baseball sized – but yet the noise they made was “impressive” as they hit the roof of the house and banged into the front door as they bounced…
I spotted these two growths of a fungus on a couple of dead trees in our yard. The first image below is 1 of 4 fungi that were growing around the base of this dead box elder tree. These next 2 shots are the same growth on a different tree.
