Photos Hoardweel Farm, Berwickshire, Scotland
The sign at the entrance to Hoardweel Farm on the A6112 road.
Agnes Moffat (513, 1819) and Margaret Moffat (514, born 1821) were born here to George Moffat (32) and Isabella Clark (33), so it is presumed that George and Isabella and their first son Alexander (born 1818 at Coppermine) lived here during this time. Their 4th child Elisabeth was born at Blakerstone in 1825.
Roger Moffat and Lisa Christensen visited this farm 22 June 2000.Sandy Bain with the sign to Hoardweel Farm - August 2005 View of Hoardweel Farm taken from very near the sign on the road.
George Moffat and Isabel Clark presumably lived here from about 1819 to 1825 when two of their children (Agnes, born 1819) and Margaret (born 1821) were born here.Hoardweel Farm, Berwickshire, Scotland
Some of the buildings and the farm house of present day Hoardweel Farm. George Moffat presumably worked here in the 1820 - 1825 time period where two of his children Agnes (1819) and Margaret (1821) were born.

Blakerston Farm is part of St Bathans Estates - a 6000 acre farm originally owned by the Turnbull Family. Now it is a "game farm" raising about 80,000 pheasants each year for release in Britain and Europe for game hunting.
William (1825), Elisabeth (1829) and George (1831) Moffat were born here to George Moffat and Isabella Clark, presumably while George and/or Isabella worked on Blakerston Farm.

This cottage on Blakerston Farm is used by the head game keeper. He is the one responsible for raising 100,000 pheasants from 150,000 pheasant eggs each year.

This church on the St Bathans properties may have been the church attended by George Moffat and his family in the 1820s. The house visible in the distance was "the Laird's House".Headstone of George Moffat and Isabella Clark

Notes - Extensive searches have not revealed who George’s parents were. They were NOTJohn Moffat ID15502 and Jean Bog(ue) ID15503 as had been believed for many years.
John Moffat and Jean Bog(ue) had a son George ID15501 who was born in 1791, but his death certificate revealed that he died Single in 1856 - 12 years after “my” George died in 1844.
Following the Scottish Naming Pattern as applied to George Moffat and Isabella Clark’s children suggests that George’s parents were Alexander Moffat and Margaret:
Alexander - 1st son - father’s father
Agnes - 1st daughter - mother’s mother - Agnes - correct
Margaret - 2nd daughter - father’s mother
Isabella - 3rd daugther - mother - Isabella - correct
Elisabeth - 4th daughter - mother’s eldest sister - ?
William - 2nd son - mother’s father - William - correct
George - 3rd son - father - George - correct
Catherine - 5th daughter - ?
So it seems George Moffat and Isabella Clark likely did name their children as per the naming pattern, which points to George’s parents being Alexander and Margaret.
There is a marriage record for an Alexander Moffat and Margaret Lauder in 1784 in Legerwood, Berwickshire, Scotland which seems like a good fit, but no birth records for any children to this couple can be found.
