=========================================
When Thomas and Catherine Carr sailed from Scotland in 1858, with their eldest child, Thomas, they also brought with them their border collie ship dogs and a number of angora goats. Thomas was employed as a servant on “Tillimby” near Paterson, where another 5 children were born. These children were baptised in the Presbyterian Church, Paterson, which was built with convict labour from 1840 to 1842. It is the oldest Presbyterian Church remaining in use today.
Some time after 1868, the family drove the goats and collie dogs up to the Walcha area. They followed the road that is used today – through Dungog, over the Monkerai Range, Gloucester, Nowendoc and Glen Morrison. Horse back riding and walking were the only way to travel through the area in those days! After they settled in the Walcha area, another two children were born. They lived at several locations in the area before selecting a property near “Bergen op Zoom”, just north of Walcha, and named it “Springwood”. [1]Birth 1833 Berwickshire, Scotland [1]
Death 1914 Walcha, New South Wales, Australia [1, 3]
