  Death Record indicates parents were George Garland Army Pensioner (deceased) and Mary Garland ms Fairlie. This doesn't match the information from 1841 Census which while not confirmed indicates mother was Elizabeth. Can find no records for marriage of George Garland to Mary or Fairlie, nor any birth records for this couple. No death record for Mary Garland. Informant on James' death was "William Forrest, Neighbour", so it's quite possible he didn't know the name of James' mother - Roger 22 May 2006 [10]
